A Walk Down Memory Lane, September 29, 2009

Wednesday's Walk Down Memory Lane

Come for a walk with me down Memory Lane!
And if you have a "Memory Lane" post, head on over to Scottsville to join in on the fun!

I am five years old here and my mom made this dress. I like this dress alot, still. We wore dresses to school every day. If it was cold, we wore pants underneath just until we got to school. Then we had take the pants off so we were just wearing our dresses.

There's that Toni perm again and look at my bangs. Mom used to cut them. I must have wiggled too much and she had to keep evening them out until there wasn't much left.

Well look at me here! I'm one year older and I look the same. I do have some new teeth though.

Mom didn't make this dress, but I loved it. I loved it so much that after we bought it (late summer) I couldn't wait to wear it. I came down early one Sunday morning with it on and my mom & dad were in the kitchen. Mom asked why I had the dress on. I answered, "Cuz it's Sunday." Both mom & dad responded that it wasn't Sunday it was a weekday and we had to go berry picking. I was so disappointed.

Mom took us berry picking in the berry farm fields to earn extra money. We would go pick for the whole berry season. Raspberries, blackberries and strawberries. That was a long season for a kid my age. I do not like picking berries to this day. I like eating them though. I appreciated what the money could help us buy, my new dress.

Not Me Monday, September 28, 2009

This hardworking fella is the focus of my Not Me Monday post hosted by Mckmama over at My Charming Kids

Join me and many others by writing your Not Me Monday post and linking with Mckmama. She has directions on how to bring her button over. You can see it on my side bar. For some reason I couldn't bring the button over today. Maybe next time.

My husband did not go to the doctor one Friday because he had a foggy spot in his right eye. The doctor did not draw blood for several tests and he did not discipline my diabetic husband who is not in denial for not visiting the office more often.

My husband was not sent to an eye specialist later that day. He did not have his eyes dilated and looked at and tested. He did not miss work because he couldn't see very well. He did not drive home from the eye doctor without the very cool humongous black sunglasses, practically blinded by the sun. No, he did not do that.

He did not go to work on Saturday with one eye still sensitive to light. He did not go to the grocery store after working eight hours and buy stuff for his lunches for the next week.

He did not come home wanting to BBQ some pork and some chicken for our lunches the next week. He did not slice part of his palm just below the thumb, very deep with a very sharp knife while slicing some meat. We did not clean and pack and bandage his hand and clean up the blood all in the sink so he could not finish all the things he wanted to finish that night.

He did not work the next day, Sunday, with this badly cut hand. He did not go to the doctor again on Monday and have the doctor look at his hand. The doctor did not say, "You did the right thing. You'd still be in the emergency room waiting if you'd gone on Saturday night." The doctor did not put five stitches in my husband's hand.

The doctor did not check my husband's prostate and he did not set up a colonoscopy appointment for my husband.

The doctor did not diagnose my husband with high blood pressure and high cholesterol in addition to the diabetes he'd been diagnosed with years ago. He did not prescribe three medications for these diagnosese. He did not tell my husband to come and see him every three months. He did not tell my husband to check his blood sugar every day.

Since I wasn't there, I don't know what else the doctor did not say. I just do not know about men. They are a mystery when it comes to going to the doctor when they have warning signs for illnesses. They also do not tell their wives about any changes in their health or well being.

This is not the end of my Not Me Monday Post. Do not have a very nice day.

Loyal Friend And Visitor Award

My very sweet friend, Hope over at My Hope Is In The Lord has passed this award along to me. I found Hope through Nan or Erica (I can't remember) when I first started blogging. Maybe Hope found me. Either way she's loyal.

Hope has visited me regularly for the three months I've been blogging. She always leaves encouraging words for me and she laughs at my humor. What more could I ask for?

She has a really fun blog with a variety of interesting stuff on it, like old photo's and magazine pictures from Life, her personal cartoons (very cute), her drawings and how she has learned to draw, stories and scripture and encouragement. It's a fun blog to follow. Thanks, Hope for being a Loyal Friend and Visitor to me.

I enjoy seeing comments on my blog when I open it each day. There are a few friends who are loyal and come by almost every day. I know that some of you have many followers and you try to visit your followers as often as possible and that is why I call you Loyal Friends and Visitors.

There are also new bloggers looking for new bloggie friends and some of you have become my Loyal Friends and Visitors. You always lift me up and encourage me with your words.

I also found out that there are some who "lurk" and don't leave comments. If they had a blog I would give them this award too. It's fun knowing that friends are reading even if they don't leave a comment. They will tell me in person or send me an e-mail and that makes this blogging thing even more interesting.

I sure appreciate each and every one of you. You have made blogging fun for me. I like knowing there are people with similar interests reading my blog. I like meeting new christian women and reading about their lives.

Here are the rules: (1) Post the award on your blog. (2) Acknowledge the giver. (3) Pass the award on to who you think who is/are deserving to as many as you want. (4) Leave a message telling them.

Since you give me a lift each day or at least once a week I want to pass the award along to these friends in blog land:

Nan at Momstheword

Andrea at Arise 2 Write

Kat at Art's Chili

Laura at Goose Hill Farm

Neno's Award (Sorry it took so long)

Andrea over at Arise 2 Write included me in this award. She said she fizzled out before she was able to give the award to all the bloggers she wanted to. So I'll accept it and gladly pass it along.

Thank you sweet, Andrea. You are the neatest lady. You love your Lord. You love your family and you love to share that love with others.

I love that you are a pet therapy lady. Your dogs are a blessing to many and that's because you heard the call to take part in the pet therapy ministry and you accepted it.

You also pray for many and pass prayer requests along through your blog. What an awesome way to use your blog for the Lord's work. God bless you as you continue serving Him in many ways.

I love blogging. I enjoy writing and getting to know others through blogging.
I've read that many of the bloggers out there started their blog as a way to journal and share with their families. It also is a scrapbook for many.

I use it as a way to let off steam, express feelings, encourage others, help people get a laugh, share my past, share my present, share the Lord, and much more. I also find so much encouragement and joy by reading other blogs. It's FUN!!

Neno's award is given to those who love blogging, love to encourage friendships through blogging, and who help others seek the reasons why we all love blogging. I have met so many wonderful people through blogging and I am so excited to pass this along. I want to pass it on to:

Not Me Monday August 24, 2009

I'm joining Mckmama over at My Charming Kids for a fun meme.

Her goes my day in "Not Me" fashion. Enjoy!

I did not wake up two times during the night with an aching mouth and take pain reliever. I did not call the dentist first thing in the morning only to find out that he was not on vacation. I did not call his emergency number and I did not have to leave a message. I did not wait an hour or so for him to call back. I did not have some important errands to run. The dentist did not then call while I was gone.

I did not call him back and he did not ask me questions and suggest Vicadin and say "I'll be back in the office on Wednesday. I did not say that I would just keep taking pain reliever every three hours and see him on Wednesday.

I did not think that it would be a good day to take the kids to get some shoes for school. My sister did not call and say she was going to the super mall today. I did not say, I was thinking of going too.

I did not leave the house at almost 2:00pm to head to the super mall. The traffic was not backed up and not really moving much. It did not take 40 minutes to drive to the mall which should not take only 15 to 20 minutes.

I did not hear my phone ring and I did not talk to my sister who was not very close to the store we came in through. We did not find shoes. We did not try to get my son to buy some more clothes with his school money. He did not refuse to shop any more.

We did not go to the food court and find refreshing snacks and Mochas. We did not say our good byes and go our separate ways home. We did not get home in 15 minutes or less.

It was not a fun day in spite of the pain I did not have. We are not happy that we did not find shoes. This not the end, or is it?

Wednesday's Walk Down Memory Lane

Come for a walk with me down Memory Lane!
And if you have a "Memory Lane" post, head on over to Scottsville to join in on the fun!

I'm joining Erica over at Scottsville for a walk down memory lane. You really need to go see her post today. It'll make you cry with joy. God is so good!

My mom used to perm our hair a couple times a year. I think this is probably Easter morning. Love those TONY perms!

My mom is a good seamstress and she made these dresses. It looks like we have headbands with flowers on them as well. Look how I have my arms. I got this from my dad. We both still do it when we don't know what to do with our hands. It's quirky, funny!

So this is my sister on the left and me, Nannette or Mocha Momma on the right. We are on the side of our small yellow house which is still standing, but looks awful.

I believe I am four years old here which would make my sister almost seven. It was April of 1962 and we moved to the house my parents still live in two years later.

We had good neighbors and I have fond memories of this house and the friends I had there. I'm amazed I remember those years since I was so young.

I hope you enjoyed this walk down memory lane. Come back next week for sure.

The True Heart Award

My friend Kat over at Art's Chili has given me the True Heart Award. I am glad she sees the qualities in my blog that are written below.

I don't feel like I have earned it, but if my friend, Kat thinks that I do, I will not question her thoughts and beliefs. I will accept and pass along this really special award. Thanks Kat, you are so sweet and sincere in your blog.

"Those who receive this award are of the sweetest nature. They are kind, friendly, funny, loving, eager to share their love for Jesus with others, and brave in their efforts to reflect Him to this darkened world. They are the kind of folks you're blessed to know, even if it's only in the bloggy-sphere."

I'm not sure if there is a specific number of people that the award is suppose to be sent to so I just started selecting and came up with ten.

There are so many I would choose and so many that have already received this award that I would send it to, but I'm going to send it to some special people in my blog world that may not have received it yet. I won't be surprised if they have though.

Ladies, please accept this True Heart Award because your words and pictures have inspired me and made me think about my life as a Christian woman. You are all sincere women with sweet spirits, yet each of you is unique and special to me.

Maryleigh at Blue Cotton Memory

Laura at Goose Hill Farm

Beth at I'm Heading Towards My Destiny

Darcy Lee at In This Season

Mich at "Mich"

Alicia at More Than Words

Amber at Raising Rascals

Sarah Dawn at Splashin Glory

Pilar at The Stark Family

Christine at Vista Woman

These ladies have also encouraged me and shown me by their lives how to be nearer to God my Lord and Savior. Thanks ladies. Have a True Heart kind of a day.

Wednesday's Walk Down Memory Lane

Come for a walk with me down Memory Lane!
And if you have a "Memory Lane" post, head on over to Scottsville to join in on the fun!

I like to try and join Erica at Scottsville every Wednesday for a walk down memory lane. This week I have another old picture of me from the 60's. Some of my followers and lurking, beloved, friends can rememebr the 60's. Those were the days my friends.

I'm quite sure this is my fifth birthday. I also believe my mom made this cake with the doll in it. I also think this is when I received my first and only Barbie Doll. You know, the one with the black and white striped bathing suit? I believe that was the first Barbie that was sold. Correct me if I'm wrong. Hope might know.

I just saw a picture on Amy's blog In Search of Normal yesterday of her daughter, Padme, who just had her fifth birthday and she had the doll cake. It reminded me of mine many years ago. Some cool things never die. (the cake idea, not me. LOL!)

So there it is, another quick trip down memory lane. I hope you enjoyed it.

Wednesday's Walk Down Memory Lane

Come for a walk with me down Memory Lane!
And if you have a "Memory Lane" post, head on over to Scottsville to join in on the fun!

Here's a trip down memory lane I'd like to forget. Certain church ladies always reminded me that all I ever did was cry. Well here are two pictures that show I cried at least twice.

Truly, I know that I cried about having my feelings hurt or being left in the church nursery. Maybe I even cried when older women with scary faces approached me at church or elsewhere. Heck, I don't know, I was a kid.

I do remember being afraid of some of my older female teachers until about fourth grade. I have no idea why. Maybe it was the old lady at church that told me "all I ever did was cry." There's no way to know what a kid like me was thinking.

A lot of people called me a cry baby which only served to make it worse. At my first wedding the old lady who said what she said, decided that this was the day she had to remind me one more time. Not, "Best Wishes," or "I'm so happy for you," but "I remember you always used to cry."

That day I was all smiles and I just laughed and smiled. Can't remember what I thought, but I'm sure it was along the lines of, "I cried cuz you're so ugly." Please forgive me, I was an unsaved 22 year old bride and that's my excuse. And I'm sticking with it.

I still cry over all kinds of things, but most of the time I try to be really tough.

I think someone pinched me and I know that little boy just took my toy. These are good reasons to cry. Why is it that out of the very few pictures of me as a baby, there have to be ones of me crying?

That's my trip down memory lane and I'm laughing about it now, but I sure wasn't then. Hope you laughed and didn't cry, cuz if you cried I'd say, "You're a cry baby."

My Five Favorite Things About Summer

Erica, a fun bloggy friend, over at Scottsville, played a little game of "tag" where she had to tell her five favorite things about SUMMER! Since she tagged me personally I just had to play along! Here we go!

I love blue sky! We don't have a lot of blue sky around here in the fall and winter. Blue skies make me feel happy.

I love small town parades in the summer. Winter ones are just too cold or wet.

I love BBQ's! Especially BBQ'd chicken. I love all the stuff that goes with it too.

I love Independence Day because I love America all year long and enjoy celebrating my love for my country.

I love doing things with friends and family because days are longer and we seem to have more free time.

There are so many more things I love about summer. I couldn't get a picture of tonight's, but the sunsets of summer are awesome.

Now, I'm going to tag some of my blogger friends in this little game of tag! Nan, Mary Leigh, Mich, Beth, Christine, Heather, Lauren, and Laura... You're up! What do YOU love about Summer?

Not Me Monday!

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

This is my first attempt at Not Me Monday. It was fun. I just remembered this event in my life a couple days ago and remembered Not Me and thought I'd try to write it that way. Hope you understand and enjoy my first attempt. I did.

When I was 23 years old, I did not drive across the United States in a Ford pick-up truck with no AC. I did not bring an un-neutered cat and a 9 month old female dog that had Parvo with me. The dog did not refuse to eat and did not throw up for most of the trip.

The cat did not spray inside the cab of the truck right before I went into the real estate office to sign papers for the sale of our townhouse.

I did not bring my SIL who couldn't drive a stick shift and my BIL to help me drive. We did not camp in the canopy together with the cat and the dog every night until we got home.

I did not go almost blind from driving for ten hours a day with cheap
sun glasses on. My eyes did not burn so bad that I couldn't do much of
anything, but apply ice and wait for my eyes to get better.

I did not climb in the back and let my SIL, instructed by my BIL drive the truck until we found a place to camp.

The cat did not get loose in one of the campgrounds and climb 25 feet up a fur tree and have us chasing him all over and calling him to "Please, please, come down" for an hour.

We did not go inner tubing on a river in Montana on the way home and see a snake swim across the river just ahead of us.

I did not try to pass a WA State Patrol officer at a pretty fast pace in his unmarked pretty blue car when I was only three hours from home. I did not just drive all the way from Virginia Beach, VA at this same average speed without getting stopped by the State Patrol in any state.

I did not posses an OR registration, a VA License plate and a WA driver's license and avoid getting a ticket. I did not say "I'm a military dependent and my husband is out to sea and we just sold our townhouse in VA and I'm trying to get home and I've been driving for five days and I didn't notice that you were a State Patrol."

He did not say, "Well when you're driving a long distance like that, be sure and slow down when you get near the cities."

None of this happened in the scorching temps of July 1981. No, I would never do things like that.

Wednesday's Walk Down Memory Lane

Come for a walk with me down Memory Lane!
And if you have a "Memory Lane" post, head on over to Scottsville to join in on the fun!

Thanks, Erica for hosting this. I enjoy walks down memeory lane.

As a kid, our family used to go camping every summer. We had some favorite places we went every year. The ocean, a friends' cabin on a lake, and this mountain campground.

I think I'm nine or ten years old here. I loved walking on the big fallen logs. I played in the woods and the creeks at this very primitive campground near the mountain.

There were only very old outhouses with four holes. I hated that more than anything especially in the dark when mom made us go use the restroom before we went to bed. Oooooh icky!

What a beautiful, green place this was. The creek was so cold it made any body part hurt that met with it's mountain chill. Oh so refreshing when it did get hot up there though.

Good times camping. My folks did a lot of hard work so we could go camping. A whole other story.

Kreativ Blogger Award 2009

It seems that Hope over at My Hope is in the Lord has selected me to receive the Kreativ Blogger Award. Thank you, sweet Hope. It is an honor to get this award from someone who is so creative. It is also an honor to be selected along with these other very creative bloggers.

This award is given to bloggers whose blogs are interesting and have a lot of creativity. Thank you Hope!

It has been fun blogging these past three months. I never knew that I would enjoy it so much. The creativity has actually been awakened from years of slumber. Reading all of your blogs inspires me and gives me ideas. I feel like I can be creative or go and do creative things again.

I think I put myself on hold to be the boss-mom. I set aside things because they weren't convenient or controllable. I felt I couldn't complete anything so I just wouldn't start anything. Call me crazy, but I guess that is how I cope.

Now that my kids are older I feel like we can go do crazy, fun things. Many mom's don't miss a beat when they have kids. They take their kids everywhere and do everything. I am not so adventurous and I like control and order (oh there's that word again).

So now I will get started on fulfilling the award expectations. I am going to tell seven things about myself that most of you do not know. I did this once with another award, but I think I can come up with seven more thanks to Kat at Art's Chili. She thought she was fresh out of things to tell about herself, but her creative mind helped her to come up with an idea. Her love for coffee helped her out.

1) My love for gardening, as limited as it may be, came from the last job I had at
a nursing home as an Activity Assistant. My Director gave me the job to begin a
raised garden program for the residents in their courtyard. I learned a lot and
have enjoyed planting and tending small gardens ever since. There is much, much
more to learn.

2) As a child, my dream was to grow up, get married and have five kids. Well I
didn't follow that dream. It was a good dream, but I chose to do things without
God's help. Thank God He patiently watched and protected me as I made my way.
I got married to a guy who wanted to wait. Then I had a miscarriage, then I got
divorced. At age 34 I was introduced to the real husband. We got married. At
that age two kids sounded more sensible. I'd like one boy and then one girl. I
wasn't asking for much. At age 37 I had a boy and twenty months later I had
a girl. Isn't God creative and loving and smart? I know He is.

3) I always thought my kids would be athletes. I have one techy and one actress/
artist/ singer. God knows best.

4) I played basketball for about two years. I lacked the confidence to "go to the
hoop" as a forward which drove my coach nuts. She wanted me to try and do well,
but I gave up and quit. I'm still kicking myself. I loved watching our boys
basketball team play in high school. It helped that they were state champions
or vying for it all three years of high school.

5) I used to love water skiing and jet skiing. As a matter of fact I got pretty good
at both. Can't afford it now and my back couldn't take it either.

6) I learned to scuba dive in October when the bay water was only 40 to 45 degrees.
Now that was invigorating. I thought my heart would stop when I let the water
into my wet suit. WHEW!

7) I actually like doing laundry. I do it everyday as long as I'm home. It's a
mindless time filler while waiting for a Doctor's office to call, kids to finish
homework, a reason to get out of a room or off my behind.

I did laundry for my SIL while we visited them for two weeks last summer. She
had a pile of dirty clothes in the master bedroom that was three feet wide and
up to my thighs.

She was taking summer school working on her Masters in nursing. I knew I could
be of help and I would feel like I was contributing something to their household
while we loafed around at their house for two weeks eating their food, etc.

So there they are, seven things you may not have known about me. Now I have to choose seven bloggers who I would like to give the award to and why.

First will be Barbara at Barbara's Bakin N Bits. She is creative in many ways, but her recipes are awesome. You've got to go over and look at the pictures of the food she prepares. You'll know what I mean. (Sorry I'm having trouble linking to Barbara)Be sure to go over and visit her blog.

Next I'll choose Christine at Vista Woman. Christine wrote a post that caught my attention. It was very creatively written and it made me want to know her more. Go over and read What Hat Are You Wearing? You'll love it. She also gives me advice for getting a job with a school district. Thanks Christine.

Third, I'm awarding Mich, over at Mich the Kreativ Blogger award because Mich is creatively honest about her life and her family. She doesn't pretend to be something she isn't. I love how she shares her stories and thoughts.

FourthI'm choosing my daughter over at Hannah's Faves because she is using her blog to share art in a way I never thought she would. She is a good story teller, but she is writing stories in another venue where she gets immediate feedback from others who are chatting. You go Hannah!!

Fifthis Heather at Want What You Have. Heather is frugal and creative about it. She and her husband have a very cool story about getting out of debt, that we all can learn from. She is a sensible, down to earth mother of some gorgeous kids.

SixthI'm awarding Renee at Glow Academy because she has all kinds of ideas for kids and moms. She also changes her blog look a lot so you can always be surprised and creatively blessed with her creativity.

And seventhwill be Lauren at Walking By Faith. Lauren is a creative writer. She shares God's love and His work in her life so creatively. And she and her husband have a very creative engagement story. So sweet, you have to meet Lauren.

Wednesday's Walk Down Memory Lane

Come for a walk with me down Memory Lane!
And if you have a "Memory Lane" post, head on over to Scottsville to join in on the fun!

I'm joining Erica over at Scottsville for a Memory Lane post today. As I've mentioned before, I love the ocean. I think it all started way back when I was a kid.

Our family would go camping every summer at a favorite place on the ocean. I took my hubby out there to show it to him before we got married. We've been their once since then. It is still my favorite ocean camp ground and beach.

Here's my sis and me in July of 1963. I was five and she was eight. I think those bathing suits were made of cotton. Black and white pictures bring out a good old fashioned feeling. Too bad they are so small, but that is what I was able to get.

We loved getting all sandy and washing off in the ocean and doing it again. We are holding up Razor Clam shells. I'm sure dad had us do that. He was a bit of a photographer. That's a 1960's action shot, he he!

Hope this brings back good memories for you. I just want to go camping there again.

Honest Scrap Award

I'd like to say thanks to Laura over at Goose Hill Farm for sending me the Honest Scrap Award.

I've been blogging about two and a half months and I think Laura has been following me and encouraging me for most of that time.

She's a very kind farm girl with lot's of great ideas and a love for her family and country and most of all her Lord.

I've enjoyed her blog for the last couple of months and you will too, so head over to Goose Hill Farm for a special treat every day.
She has a great blog page too, and she changes it so you don't get bored.

Here are the rules:

1) Say thank you to the presenter of the award and link back to them
2) Share 10 honest things about yourself
3) Present this award to 7 other people whose blogs you find brilliant in content and/or design, or those who have encouraged me.
4) tell those 7 people that they've been awarded HONEST SCRAP and inform them of these guidelines in receiving it. (doing that now)

Here are the ten honest things about myself:

1) Jesus is my Lord and savior. I am a sinner and every day I go to the Lord with the details and sins of my life. He guides me and forgives me and cares about everything in my life. Thank you, Lord.

2) I love my family and I love being a SAHM and homeshooler, but will have to get a job soon and the kids are going to public school.

3) Which brings me to this one, "I don't really like change". I'm going to be experiencing a lot of change real soon.

4) Nan @ momstheword and I go to the same church. Her husband is my pastor.

5) I was in the U.S. Navy for six years. I had jobs as a police officer and a construction woman.

6) I was married once before for almost ten years.

7) I've had one miscarriage.

8) I got saved by American missionaries who were in the Philippines to serve the Americans in the military while they were in the P.I. The place we gathered was called The Overseas Christian Service men's Center located just off the base.

9) I've been married to my hubs for fifteen years. He likes serving so he is very helpful around the house which makes life wonderful for me. He's a dedicated and committed man to whatever cause he is working for.

10) Like Laura, I am familiar with hitch hiking. Only I was the hitch hiker. My friend and I would do this in tenth grade (not my good old buddy of 36 years). I was very afraid to get in cars with strangers, but I trusted her. I was so naive. In addition to that, my basketball coach/PE teacher from junior high school saw me and was very concerned telling me to stop doing it.

Here are the 7 bloggy buddies I'v selected though I'm sure most of them have already received this award. Also, there are more than 7 I would love to select so it was hard to choose. So many have great blogs and have been supportive of me.

1) Nan at Momstheword
2) Erica at Scottsville
3) Andrea at Arise 2 Write
4) Beth at I'm Heading Towards My Destiny
5) Kat at Art's Chili
6) Christy Rose at The Secret Life of an American Wife

Sixth Photo Challenge From Art's Chili

Kat over at Art's Chili has challenged me to post the sixth photo that I have in the sixth file folder I have on my computer. I'll tell the story that goes with the photo and then explain the rules for the five people I select to challenge.

This is a random picture of my (almost fourteen year old) son. I believe I took it at my parent's house when we celebrated Mom's and my birthdays and Easter this year.

I'll just chat about my son since it's just a random picture. He is our first born. He has been homeschooled since he finished one year of preschool. He's a pretty serious guy, but has silly moments (or hours when he's with some of his friends).

I remember that I couldn't wait for him to be noisy and talk when he was a toddler, but he has never been noisy or talked a lot. Finally he would say a word or two about twucks, tractos, bulldozers, and aopwanes.

He would get so excited when the garbage truck came, he would stand at the front screen door and literally shake and point and and say, "Twuck, twuck..." you get the picture.

Of course he would be holding his Meme and his two fingers would be in his mouth. He might even be in just a diaper and a T-shirt, but he was at the door every week. Cool thing was that the garbage man (I know there's a better name for him) would wave to him.

He started learning to read at age four and just took off with it. He still enjoys reading. He is good at getting his work finished and focus's very well on what he's doing.

He also enjoys computer related activities. He plays all kinds of games on various game consols. He is learning from his dad how to fix these things too. They seem to break quite often.

He has memorized many scriptures and seems to very good at it. He has earned the Meritorious Award for completing six Awana Club books. A youth group we attend weekly during the school year.

He is anxious to be a freshman in high school and to start going to public school. I like the school because it is small. So small the whole ninth grade class goes to every class together. I'm excited to see him growing into a fine young man, but it is hard to let go after nine years of homeschooling him.

So that's my story about my son that goes with the picture.

Now I select these five bloggy friends to take the sixth photo challenge:

1) Erica at Scottsville because I know she has a lot of pictures.

2) Nan at Momstheword because she got me into this blogging.

3) Hope at My Hope Is In The Lord because she has some cool oldie pictures and family pix.

4) Beth in NC at I'm Heading Towards My Destiny because she seems like another nice chick.

5) Karen at Goose Hill Farm because she's so down to earth and has a farm.

Rules:
1) Go to your photo folders
2) Select the sixth file folder
3) Open it and select the sixth photo in that file folder
4) Write a story for that picture, post it and
5) Select five bloggy friends to tag
6) Be sure to let them know they've been tagged

Have fun with it and I'll be looking for your sixth photos and stories. Thanks

A Walk Down Memory Lane With Dubb Dubb

Wednesday's Walk Down Memory Lane

Come for a walk with me down Memory Lane!
And if you have a "Memory Lane" post, head on over to Scottsville to join in on the fun!

This is a post for "Memory Lane" over at Erica's blog, Scottsville. This is my first attempt so here goes.

This picture isn't old and neither am I (Ha), but the seal sculpture brings back memories of my childhood.

This sculpture is of Dubb Dubb the seal who used to live at the zoo. We recently went to the zoo for a visit and this sculpture caught my attention.

You see, Dubb Dubb was every child's favorite seal when I was a kid. He was huge. This sculpture doesn't show him life size. I'm talkin' he was huge. Overfed is more like it. People could buy fish and feed Dubb Dubb all day long.

He would do tricks and really try to get your attention. He would also catch the fish real well. If someone wanted to feed the other seals, Dubb Dubb would crowd the other seals and get the fish anyway.

I loved standing by the open tank watching Dubb Dubb go through his antics of clapping his fins, waving and twirling in the water. All of the children would get so excited to see Dubb Dubb the seal perform for food.
