Come for a walk with me down Memory Lane!
And if you have a "Memory Lane" post, head on over to Scottsville to join in on the fun!
I like to try and join Erica at Scottsville every Wednesday for a walk down memory lane. This week I have another old picture of me from the 60's. Some of my followers and lurking, beloved, friends can rememebr the 60's. Those were the days my friends.
I'm quite sure this is my fifth birthday. I also believe my mom made this cake with the doll in it. I also think this is when I received my first and only Barbie Doll. You know, the one with the black and white striped bathing suit? I believe that was the first Barbie that was sold. Correct me if I'm wrong. Hope might know.
I just saw a picture on Amy's blog In Search of Normal yesterday of her daughter, Padme, who just had her fifth birthday and she had the doll cake. It reminded me of mine many years ago. Some cool things never die. (the cake idea, not me. LOL!)
So there it is, another quick trip down memory lane. I hope you enjoyed it.
Adorable!!
ReplyDeleteWell, if Hope doesn't know Julie would. I do remember that Barbie doll. I am behind in my blog reading and now I have to leave to go to Linda's, so I'll see you in a few minutes anyway!
ReplyDeleteBTW, did you see my facebook message to you. Was that blog helpful? Cool, huh!
Weren't you SO cute!!!
ReplyDeleteI made one of those cakes for my niece's 2nd birthday 2 months ago! It was so much fun deciding what to do and she LOVED it. I was a very happy aunt, I got LOTS of kisses for that cake!
Hi Nannette!!
ReplyDeleteI love pictures like these! They always bring back such sweet memories!!!!
Glad to hear the news about your mom too!
I had a doll cake one year, but I'm sure it was nowhere near as cool as yours.
ReplyDeleteBecause the black and white swimsuit Barbie ROCKS.
Love the picture.
sweet memories! That is a cute pic! you look happy!
ReplyDeleteAwwww, how cute! Love that cake, too.
ReplyDeleteNow I've got that song stuck in my head though: ♪ "Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end..." ♫
Glad you went for my walk with me today!
I love that picture! I had no idea doll cakes were around back then. I had never seen one until recently!
ReplyDeleteYou are right, Nannette; that was what the first Barbie, sold in 1959, wore.
ReplyDeleteHowever, we never owned a Barbie doll in our house.
This is a great photo of you, Nannette.
♥Hope
I believe that was the first Barbie. I had one minus the swimsuit. Which was missing when she was passed down to me. My grandmother's always gave us Barbie dolls but my sister and I couldn't be bothered with them.
ReplyDeletewe never had them for my girls. But a short while ago I saw a picture of that one and said something about having one and giving it to a neighbor girl. My girls went crazy. "Mom!", they said, "Do you know how much we could have sold that for on eBay?"
You look so sweet. I love your baby pictures. Not all little kids were cute, despite what people would have you to think. I'd like to see you edit it and zoom in a bit to get a better vantage point.
Such a cute picture!
ReplyDeleteHi Nannette,
ReplyDeleteI left a comment last week, but I don't see it, so I am trying again!
I had a doll cake once and somehow I talked my mom into letting me keep it on a shelf, under a plastic dome. Eventually the cake molded and I was able to get the cake out while the frosting dress remained intact. I shudder at the thought now, but I thought it was very cool. I vaguely remember throwing it away, probably when I left for college!
Good thing my girls have always wanted to eat the cake and have the doll part afterwards to ever suggest keeping it!
Love the picture. You were adorable!
